Water and Moisture Management

This course investigates moisture intrusion problems and solutions, and is intended to provide the Specialist with a thorough understanding of water and moisture management strategies. Emphasis is placed on water managed wall systems and trouble-shooting intrusion problems.

At the end of the course you will be able to:

• Identify the sources of moisture in homes
• Understand the effects of water on building materials
• Determine the causes for moisture problems in homes
• Explain the basic principles of moisture movement
• Evaluate the causes of water leaks
• Describe the difference between a vapor barrier and a weather barrier
• Understand how HVAC equipment affects air leakage
• Determine best practice for integrating weather-resistive barriers into residential wall systems
