Air, Water and Walls Revisited

This lesson provides an important review of air and water transport mechanisms, including infiltration, exfiltration and mixing. It also covers basic strategies for managing air and water transfer through and within the envelope. By understanding types of water transport mechanisms, Specialists will also understand how best to reduce condensation, energy loss or both by controlling airflow and moisture movement.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Be familiar with three types of air movement.
  • Know how to avoid condensation within the envelope by understanding the concepts of air movement and water transport mechanisms.
  • Know about three main sources of air pressure.
  • Learn about the various types of pathways air uses to flow through a structure.
